Healthy rabbit development
The importance of staying with "mother rabbit"
We all know that mother's milk is the first and most important source of nutrition for any mammal. It contains all the essential nutrients and vitamins that are essential for proper development. And rabbits are no exception. For them, mother's milk is the key to successful growth and development!
A mother rabbit produces up to half a litre of milk a day and most of this energy is transferred to the growth of the rabbit. The time comes when the rabbits come out of the nest and start to get energy from the general feed, but until they are three months old they can only digest this feed thanks to the enzymes contained in the mother's milk.
Complete transition to solid food occurs at about 3 months of age. Abrupt weaning of rabbits from their mother before 45 days of age causes digestive stress and they stop growing and miss the best opportunity to build up a strong body.
As a consequence of the forced interruption of the immune system, the body becomes very vulnerable to various diseases such as myxomatosis and haemorrhagic disease . They have little or no immunity to these diseases, which can lead to serious problems and threats to the entire farm population.
In natural rabbit production, males are weaned from their female rabbits by the age of 80-85 days, due to puberty at the age of 90 days, and to avoid unwanted reproduction, males abandon their sisters and the female rabbit.
In contrast, females stay as long as possible, moving in 15 to 20 days before a female rabbit finishes her brood.
In this way, in natural rabbit breeding, it is mandatory to keep the rabbits with their mother, which contributes to a fuller and healthier development of the young.
